About
Soil literacy and sound.
Soilify is a nine-month experimental platform led by Answer42/Gaia in Poland and Italy. It explores ecological listening by translating satellite-based soil datasets, image-based sensing, and Web Audio technologies into interactive soundscapes. Through eco-hackathons, collaborative design workshops, prototypes, listening protocols, and participatory pilots, the project helps artists, farmers, researchers, and eco-community practitioners engage with soil health, biodiversity, moisture, carbon, and ecological balance. Soilify supports soil literacy by turning technical data into accessible sensory experiences.
Project overview
Cultural and perceptual disconnect between people and soil, with soil mostly understood through technical data, extraction, or productivity rather than everyday lived experience.
Eco-hackathons; collaborative design workshops; sonification prototypes; soil datasets and image-based sensing; Web Audio systems; listening protocols; pilots with artists, farmers, researchers, and eco-communities.
Creates sonification, listening protocols, and interactive exploration to help users understand relationships between soil health, biodiversity, moisture, carbon, and ecological balance.
