Bootcamp #2 in Barcelona | Advancing Prototype Implementation in the SoilTribes Design Thinking Journey

Implemented by Platoniq and ICLEI, ECSA, OCE, and ERDN, SoilTribes brought together its growing community in Barcelona, Spain, on 19–20 March 2026 for the second on-site bootcamp of its design thinking and service design journey.

The bootcamp represents the second major phase of a structured co-creation process designed to guide multidisciplinary teams from challenge identification to prototype development, testing, and future-oriented implementation.

Building on the Porto Bootcamp #1

The Barcelona bootcamp built directly on the outcomes of the first bootcamp held in Porto (October 7-8, 2025), where participants initiated the prototyping phase of their soil-related challenges. While Porto focused on shaping initial concepts, Barcelona shifted the focus toward operationalising those ideas.

Teams worked to:

  • Clarify implementation pathways
  • Define concrete steps for pilot deployment
  • Align their strategies with upcoming testing and validation phases
  • Strengthen the feasibility and impact of their solutions

This transition from concept to implementation is central to SoilTribes’ approach, ensuring that ideas developed within the Community of Practice evolve into testable and scalable solutions.

Strengthening the Community of Practice & soil literacy

Bootcamp #2 demonstrated how this structure enables meaningful interaction between disciplines and sectors, strengthening both the quality of outputs and the sense of shared ownership among participants.

By supporting teams in moving beyond ideation and into implementation planning, the project positions itself as more than a platform for dialogue. It becomes an enabling framework for experimentation, where communities are empowered to co-develop practical approaches to soil literacy.
