SoilTribes 8th Meet-Up: Exploring Soil Pollution and Restoration

On 24 September 2026, from 16:00 to 17:30 CET, SoilTribes will host its 8th Community of Practice Meet-Up, bringing members together online around the theme “Reduce Soil Pollution and Enhance Restoration.”

The SoilTribes Meet-Up series creates a space for collaboration, knowledge sharing and exchange, while connecting Community of Practice members with ideas and solutions relevant to soil health. Living Labs and Lighthouses are also invited to contribute their knowledge and experience to these exchanges.

Connecting research with practical tools

The session will open with Vera Felix from Wageningen University & Research, presenting “Beyond the Soil: Connectivity, Consequences and Governance of Pesticide Pollution.” This session will  bring attention to pesticide pollution and the wider connections and governance considerations surrounding it.

The discussion will then move towards the use of technology for soil and land management. Alessandro Marchese, Ville Kasurinen and Mariana Salgado from the SoilSense Project will present SoilSense, a service for landowners and farmers that leverages Earth Observation data.

Creating space for exchange

Following the presentations, participants will take part in a joint reflection on reducing soil pollution and enhancing restoration, followed by an open discussion.

The session will provide space to ask questions, exchange perspectives and reflect on key points and practices emerging from the presentations. The Meet-Up will conclude with updates on upcoming SoilTribes activities, future Meet-Ups and opportunities to remain involved in the Community of Practice.
