10x Soil Stories
Austria

About
Urban soil literacy through community learning and local history.
10x Soil Stories is a participatory urban soil literacy initiative led by LaaerBergBauerInnen in Vienna, Austria, from April to October 2026. Through workshops, walk academies, art labs, gardening training, future talks, and performative actions, the project explores soil, local history, land use, and sustainable urban development. It addresses soil sealing, degradation, biodiversity loss, heat, drought, and equitable access to land. The final soil procession brings the collected stories from the field into the city, creating public awareness and community engagement around urban soil care.
Project overview
Urban soil sealing, land consumption, soil degradation and contamination, biodiversity loss, heat, drought, equitable access to soil and gardening, and food sovereignty.
Holistic program of around 15 activities, each representing a soil story. Final milestone: future talk and performative soil procession carrying the collected soil stories from the field into the city.
Builds awareness through school and adult workshops, gardening training, walk academies, and artlabs covering soil health, biodiversity, geology, land use, and sustainable practices.
