SoilTribes 5th Meet‑Up: Soil Literacy
SoilTribes returns with its 5th Meet-Up on 14 February 2026, bringing together its Community of Practice to dive into Soil Literacy. This session will explore practical and strategic ways to strengthen soil health and encourage more sustainable soil management across communities and sectors.
Organized by INOVA+, the 5th Meet-Up will take place from 11:00 to 12:15 CET in a hybrid format, combining online participation with an in-person gathering hosted within the Entrudanças Festival in Castro Verde, Portugal, for the Community of Practice.
The 5th Meet-Up will feature a series of short presentations showcasing innovative approaches to soil literacy, engagement, and conservation across Europe:
- SoilScape Project
Presentation by Nikola Patzel
An introduction to the SoilScape Project and its work to deepen soil literacy through participatory approaches and community-based learning.
- Soil Literacy and Engagement Initiatives
Harmonia Horta, CURIOSOIL, and ECHO Horizon Europe Project
Presentation by Armando Cruz (CURIOSOIL Project)
Insights into three complementary initiatives working to strengthen soil awareness, promote sustainable practices, and engage citizens in soil stewardship.
- Soil Conservation in Irrigated Mediterranean Agroecosystems
Presentation by Alexandra Tomaz (Polytechnic Institute of Beja)
A focus on soil conservation strategies tailored to Mediterranean irrigated systems, highlighting practical solutions and ongoing research.
The session will conclude with an open discussion, inviting participants to share reflections, pose questions, and exchange experiences.
By connecting the SoilTribes exchange to a live festival setting, the in-person participation is expected to elevate the discussion and enhance the dialogue on soil. At the same time, we are ensuring that the Meet-up is accessible to the wider SoilTribes community.
We invite our Community of Practice and partners to join the conversation and amplify soil awareness.
